With “Omeyocan,” Cochemea offers a welcome counterpoint to this month’s frenetically joyful lead single and title track “Ancestros Futuros” from his upcoming album, dialing the energy back into a steadier groove. A marching drum trudges beneath the surface of the track, laying down a measured pulse, while Cochemea’s saxophone nimbly weaves in and out of the rhythm – sometimes sultry, sometimes playful. The cheerful “da da da” vocal refrain cements the track’s carefree spirit, transforming what could be a solemn stroll into a buoyant parade. It’s a masterful balance of restraint and spontaneity, hinting at the stylistic breadth we can expect from the upcoming fall release.
