On Friday night Pond came into town to play with 26fix at the Observatory North Park. At first it seems like an odd pairing when you look up 26fix and see pictures of them or read the few articles of them online. But once they hit the stage, you begin to understand why they opened for Pond. Their mix of psych guitar rock, well written surfy melodic songs (not unlike Alvvays), and more than enough energy to fill the room, make 26fix the perfect opener.
Their debut song A Pickle captures all at once what 26fix is about. They’re fun, playful, and know how to start a party, but Erika Goodwin’s songwriting reminds you 26fix is a band meant to be taken seriously. Goodwin, based out of Salt Lake City, is the former guitarist of the band Brother. Goodwin started 26fix out of a need to be creative during the pandemic and it was her first attempt at writing her own songs since high school. Maybe through boredom and isolation, the songs found a fun and exciting bass heavy sound to them that become instant ear worms. Hearing the songs played live was the perfect way to start the night and we’re excited to see where 26fix goes next.
