Genuine Menace is a collaboration between Torquil Campbell, the lead singer of Montreal-based indie rock band Stars, and UK-based musician and producer Joseph Da Silva. Their debut EP Nobody | Someone features four tracks that showcases the duo’s creative collaboration. From spoken word, to upbeat indie rock, Nobody | Someone is an exciting and intriguing project that highlights chemistry between two artists pushing each other into new territory.
“And The Night, It Will Come,” merges spoken-word lyricism with a driving, post-rock instrumental backdrop. On the other hand, “Drug Kids” is a more energetic track that features a bright electric guitar front-and-center. “Someone Else” has a slight brit-pop influence to it, and Campbell’s emotional vocal delivery draws us into the inner turmoil and narrative being described.
Genuine Menace’s debut EP ultimately lands in a confident stride toward a statement of identity and collaboration. It is proof that Campbell and Da Silva are at their best when they’re challenging each other’s instincts, balancing emotional vulnerability with bold stylistic experimentation.
