Funeral Lakes – “Dreaming of Heroes”

Funeral Lakes’ new song “Dreaming of Heroes” is a fully-fledged indie folk tune that blends atmospheric storytelling with a haunting sense of place. Drawing from the mythos of the American frontier, the track channels the emotional weight of isolation and the psychological unraveling that often accompanied westward expansion. This song comes ahead of their EP Mountains Turned To Dust explores the human spirit in the context of this time period. Funeral Lakes has been known to write music with a story rooted in the environment, formerly covering climate change and land destruction.

“Dreaming of Heroes” builds on the upcoming EP’s recurring themes of cowboys and historical North American frontiers. This track follows a lost soul confronting the loneliness of westward expansion while facing an unforgiving environment haunted by psychological toll of prairie madness. Funeral Lakes strike a balance between optimism and warning, utilizing vocal woos that echo like the windy plains and a trudging melody that evokes the feeling of driving forward into the unknown without looking back.

“Dreaming of Heroes” is released ahead of Funeral Lakes’ upcoming EP, Mountains Turned to Dust, out independently on September 19th, 2025. Preorder available here.
