dog eyes have announced a new EP titled blue bird rain cloud, and “i remain” is a first look at what the Bay Area indie folk duo have been cooking. In the featured track, dog eyes’ Hailey Firstman and Davis Leach create an atmosphere that feels immediately inviting. There’s a playful warmness and a gentleness to the music, with a simple guitar and duet vocals that beckon you into a circle around the campfire or a cozy living room. Descriptive lyrics paint a picture for the listener to visualize a scene, further adding to the cultivated atmosphere. Synthesizers that fade in and out give the track a subtle depth beyond the percussion and repeated guitar.
“‘i remain’ is a song that was lost in the obscurity of my voice memos for several years, until it was revived one day. The song itself has an ensemble of friends clapping, a handful of spoons, and a guitar that repeats over and over. Something about it makes me feel like a child!”
