You ever walk into a room and something or someone strikes you and grabs your immediate attention? The someone is Hayden Pedigo, the something is his guitar playing. He sits on his chair and guides you through a self described post apocalíptico western. He won’t hold your hand but he demands your attention in the most unassuming way. He weaves creative chord progressions with foot tapping bass lines to create a unique experience. This wasn’t just an opening set to remember, it was an ear opening palette cleanser for what emotions music can evoke inside you.
Between songs, Hayden shared a bit about his hometown Amarillo, TX and how the sprawling desert landscape inspires his music. He joked about the pauses in his songs – how these can be mistaken for the song ending – but those in the crowd who were dialed-in followed along in those silences. His years of touring and playing live music really showed how comfortable he is sitting on a chair on the stage. It’s like he’s inviting you to watch him play in his backyard, complete with transitional banter – like a surreal story about a run-in with Canadian border patrol due to his GPS acting up.
