Walt Disco is a five-piece band from Glasgow, mixing art-pop, new wave, and glam rock, to create a refreshing take on indie music in today’s landscape. Their sound embraces a theatrical and fearless vision, leaning into the grandeur corners of the rock establishment. The result is a highly rebellious, contagious, danceable, and immediately exciting band, full of anthemic moments. The band consists of Jocelyn Si (vocals), Finlay McCarthy (guitar, keyboards), Lewis Carmichael (guitar), Charlie Lock (bass), and Jack Martin (drums).
The band brought their high-energy live show to Salt Lake City on June 6th, opening for OMD. Opening for a legendary act can be a tough task for any band, but that was not the case for Walt Disco. While it took the crowd a song or two to warm up, they were all in by the third song. Light hand-clapping and a talking crowd fell silent by the start of the third song. This is a testament to the band and the confidence they displayed on stage from the moment they stepped on. Every song, every note, every movement had intent and purpose.
Their magnetism and performance elevated the music to a degree where you stopped thinking of them as an opening band; they are well on their way to being headliners in their own right. Walt Disco are willing to “go big” without sacrificing personality or sanding down their rough edges. Emotion and musicianship merged seamlessly, leaving no doubt that they’re a band that demands your attention. It was refreshing to see a band with big ideas execute them to perfection.
