The Okmoniks are back to keep the party going with Afterparty Fever!!! The aptly dubbed sophomore LP follows the band’s debut Party Fever!!! released back in 2008. The new record is injected with the essence of San Fransisco and West Coast 60s/70s punk and budget rock (think The Mummies, Fastbacks, Thee Mighty Caesars). Comprising of Helene on organ and vocals, Sammy on guitar, Jason on bass, and Pascual on drums, The Okmoniks blend early punk and garage rock influences into a sound that’s as raw as it is infectious. Formed in Tucson in 2000 and now based in the Bay Area since 2009, The Okmoniks have made a name for themselves with their energetic live shows and a string of self-released EPs along with one LP on Slovenly Records.
Afterparty Fever!!! features original compositions and self recordings, showcasing the band’s songwriting prowess and a deep connection to their DIY musical heritage. “Unlike a lot of garage or budget rock bands, The Okmoniks write our own songs,” Sammy points out. “But we had to pull one of our favorites out for this record, ‘Cry A Little Longer’ by a 60s punk band from Tucson called The Grodes.”
Helene, known for her finger-stretching organ riffs, adds, “I play a 1960s Ace-Tone TOP-5 organ that requires frequent maintenance, we just tuned it and it sounds great! I also love VOX Jaguars and Farfisa Compacts. These new organ simulator keyboards do not sound good.
