Porch Light from Minneapolis recently released their debut album, Hush, one that will for sure make many AOTY lists. The album is jam-packed with energy and emotion, and this translates tenfold in the band’s live show. Frontperson Jackie Uhas has an incredible voice and an explosive level of energy that keeps the performance electric and engaging.
The band kicked off their fall tour supporting the new album last week, starting at Shaky Knees festival in Atlanta. We caught them about a third of the way through their tour at the intimate all-ages venue Kilby Court in Salt Lake City. They played almost all of the songs from their new album, plus a few from their first EPs. The set ebbs and flows, keeping things interesting and engaging throughout. Jackie’s voice has crazy range, and she’s able to hit all those high notes effortlessly.
Halfway through the set, the band slowed things down for a few songs. “Living Room Blues” is the kind of song that signals a band’s potential to reach arenas. The band is able to slow things down without losing any of their energy or momentum. On the other hand, “Paranoia” is a prime example of a song the crowd couldn’t help but belt out as Porch Light neared the end of their set with a bang and an encore.
Porch Light sounded bigger than the venue could contain. We look forward to seeing them on larger stages as their name only gets bigger. Be sure to catch them in a city near you!
