Safe Mind is the new, collaborative project between Boy Harsher’s Augustus Muller and LUCY (aka Cooper B. Handy). “6′ Pole” is their debut single released last month, just ahead of the duo’s first run of live shows coming this month (dates/tickets here). The track is an energetic and bouncy dark wave tune that will have you immediately bopping your head along to the beat. Handy’s contagious vocals have a lot of personality, and the lyrics feature a subtle dark humor that shines through in the main hook, “I wouldn’t touch you with a 6′ pole.”
Previously, Muller and Handy joined forces to create “Autonomy,” a chilling electronic anthem for Boy Harsher’s 2022 soundtrack album, The Runner. The two continued to produce music together over the next few years, and thus Safe Mind came to fruition.
The accompanying music video for “6′ Pole” (below) was directed by Muller, who elaborates: “I had an idea to do a house party in the style of Gummo meets SLC Punk. We were just having fun — we wanted cool freaky people looking at the camera and being themselves.”
