Vancouver-based artist Kaleah Lee has a new single out today, titled “Fever,” a soft folk-driven song that feels like it’s being played straight from the heart and mind. Lee’s sharp lyricism and soft, honest vocal pairing makes for an intriguing artistic expression and one that you can anticipate will become more singular over time.
The introductory pacing guitar sets the tone for an expected song of introspection, while the first words have a playful arrangement of rhyming and alliteration. This lyrical ear-candy continues for the remainder of the song. Kaleah Lee’s vocals are soft and modest, but this lack of flashiness doesn’t take away from her musical ability. In an atmospheric dreamscape, Lee evokes a sense of wandering and disorientation. It’s a look into her thought process and self-doubtful tendencies.
Before writing original music, Kaleah Lee began her musical journey in 2019, covering her favorite songs privately, and then eventually publicly to TikTok where she gained somewhat of a following. After releasing a handful of originals and then playing with some notable artists on tour, she released Birdwatcher EP, a meditation on her identity as an artist on the rise.
“Fever” further realizes Kaleah Lee’s foothold in the indie-folk space. There’s an honest delicacy that she is continuing to hone in on with this single, a vulnerability, something that requires plenty of introspection while wearing her heart on her sleeve.
