“Daze” is the first single from Kara-Lis Coverdale’s upcoming new album, titled From Where You Came. The new album, out May 9th, is her first full length release in over 8 years. As an ambient artist, Coverdale holds the philosophy that “voice is beyond human,” masterfully putting to sound her thoughts and feelings. “Daze” fits in as a more uplifting and joyful track on an album that has themes covering the experience of grief, dislocation, and the pressure that comes with independence. The song slowly submerges you into the layers of instrumentation, with lovely piping synthesizers that plateau by the end of the song. It could symbolize excitement and anticipation, followed by peace rather than anxiety, as one embraces the unknown of the next chapter.
From Where You Came was recorded and produced across several continents and countries, including France and Sweden where it was recorded, and Ontario where it was mastered. Coverdale recruited the talents of many artists and friends, including cellist Anne Bourne and trombone prodigy Kalia Vandever. This choir of collaboration with other artists helped shape the in-depth instrumentations that are orchestrated on the album.
“Daze” is released ahead of Kara-Lis Coverdale‘s upcoming album From Where You Came, out May 9th on Smalltown Supersound. Pre-order available here.
