Heaven For Real is the experimental and bright indie rock project of twins Mark and J. Scott Grundy. For more than a decade, the duo’s dynamic of Mark’s lyric-driven songwriting and Scott’s musicality has shaped the group’s quirky sound. Their latest single “Hold Me Back” comes with the announcement of their fourth full-length album, Who Died & Made You The Dream? which will be out this fall. The album is full of earworms and avant-pop melodies that are equal parts spontaneous and dreamy.
“Hold Me Back” showcases Heaven For Real’s psychedelic side, with a trance-like, circular guitar riff that loops hypnotically throughout the track, pulling listeners into its kaleidoscopic swirl. The band share that this song is about “holding onto the feeling of letting go… the idea of trying to observe your own life as an outsider, and how that’s ultimately also like, a failure – one of the album’s guiding themes.” The single comes with an accompanying music video by Jordan Minkoff, who took this as their chance to finally make something that departed from their typical goofy animation style. Inspired by the song’s haunting sound, Minkoff crafted a narrative that, in a playful twist, circles back to a lighthearted concept: haunted hair. It’s a blend of introspection and whimsy that perfectly captures the band’s offbeat charm.
“Hold Me Back” is released ahead of Heaven For Real’s upcoming album, Who Died & Made You The Dream? out November 7th, 2025 on Mint Records. Preorder available here.
