BAGHEAD is a three-piece hardcore punk band from Salt Lake City, and their new EP FD-Approved delivers six hard-hitting, mosh-ready tracks designed to wreck a room. The band – Crock, Cole, and Jaxon – play with the kind of reckless precision that creates an intentionally chaotic energy. The title track opens the EP in a rushed flurry of noise, their screeching vocals and frantic tempo setting the tone for the remaining tracks. It’s a blast of raw urgency that immediately announces the band’s intent: no filler, no restraint, just pure, combustable punk.
“25/8” opens with a steadier but still heavy punk-rock riff that descends into another infernal burst of breakneck drums and throat-shredding vocals halfway through the song. This whiplash shift repeats on “Gulf of America,” which features a mid-song breakdown ushered in by a brief, interluding harmonica that adds some new textures to the music. Although the shortest track on the release, “AK-47” maintains a heavy head-banging guitar riff throughout its entire duration.
“Do You Wanna Know a Secret” flips back to a frantic formula that crashes in and out of focus, and the closing track “Old Song” dials back the screeching vocals just enough to reveal a surprisingly melodic undercurrent – proof that BAGHEAD’s ferocity still exists beneath their punk exterior.
FD-Approved shows that BAGHEAD is never more than a second away from total detonation. The tracks on the EP average around two minutes, showing that the band can craft short-lived, self-combustable bursts of punk without wasting a second. In true DIY fashion, the EP traveled from a makeshift basement recording setup to handmade CDs you can order directly from the band via email (check their Bandcamp page for more info).
