“The Way I Saw You” is the debut single from Sari Lightman, of Lightman Sisters (formerly Tasseomancy, Lightman & Lightman). Lightman’s solo work is emerging as a stripped-back, minimalist folk sound that still manages to feel meditative and engulfing. Speaking about her upcoming debut album, Lightman shares, “These songs are my attempt to draw a silhouette – a figure of a person that feels momentary and intimate.; a casual slice of life that my favorite songs are drawn from.” The new track centers on a journalist interviewing writer Eve Babitz during her withdrawn later years, after the accident that left her disfigured. She hopes to be remembered not for her disappearance but for the vivid, sensual spirit captured in her songwriting, like an immortal rose blooming through her work.
Lightman’s close friend Meg Duffy (Hand Habits, Perfume Genius) was a guiding force behind the record, becoming a crucial collaborator who contributed engineering, producing, and their transcendently lyrical guitar to each track. The upcoming album from Sair Lightman, The Way I Saw You, also features contributions from Bassist Pat Kelly (Perfume Genius, St Vincent); Synthesist Aaron Otheim (Mega Bog); percussionist Jesse Quebbeman-Turley (Buck Meek, Cherry Glazerr); and drummer Evan Cartwright (Cola, U.S. Girls). The album was mixed by Philip Weinrobe (Adrianne Lenker, Florist).
“The Way I Saw You” is released ahead of Sari Lightman’s upcoming album, The Way I Saw You, out June 26th via Night Bloom Records.
