Ellie Heath – “I’m Too Old (For This Shit)”

Ellie Heath’s new single, “I’m Too Old (For This Shit),” bursts open with a bright, whistle-along melody that immediately sets a playful tone. The Edmonton-based artist frames the track as an ode to aging – coming to terms with the moment you realize you are no longer in your carefree youth and real responsibilities have subtly taken over. As Heath explains, it’s about “the slow realization that nobody ever tells you when you’ve ‘arrived’ at adulthood”.

Instead of leaning into tired complaints about “adulting,” the song feels more like a warm, humorous farewell to one’s younger years. Heath reflects on the clarity that comes with time, noting that aging “deepens the fun moments and makes them richer. It’s more of a choice as you get older to keep your childlike wonder and enthusiasm for things.” That perspective shines through in the track’s pop-rock energy, which feels both catchy and grounded in genuine experience. The result is a song that is relatable as it is fun – an upbeat, self-aware anthem for anyone who’s ever paused and thought “Wait… when did I become an adult?”

The track was made possible with the help of co-writers and producers Hawksley Workman and Tristan Konkle, who workshopped the song with Ellie Heath as a last-minute idea before they wrapped up their recording session together.

“We weren’t even going to try writing anything, but this idea came flooding in and we laid down the demo track in what felt like an instantaneous, effortless, fun and inspiring writing session. I was fairly certain I’d listen back on the bus ride to Toronto and think it sucked, but I was pleasantly surprised to find a banger visit my ears when I tuned in!”

The music video, directed by Mike Robertson, is equally as funny and bright as the song. It features Heath running amok in an empty school, knocking books off shelves and singing into a variety of props, such as an expo marker and a PB&J sandwich (cut into triangles, of course).
