Dean Decay – Movie Town

Dean Decay has a way of infusing emotion into every part of their sound; The spiky guitar riffs are riddled with mood while fluttering vocals are sung with just as much passion. It started as started as a solo effort from Daniel Dvorak in 2018 and after the debut album (Hot Take), the project transformed into a full band with four additional members on guitar, bass, synthesizers, and drums. Their latest album, Movie Town, showcases this updated sound. Movie Town also acts as sort of a sequel to the 2019 record, as the release dates are almost exactly 5 years apart. Aptly titled, many of the themes in Movie Town (a send-off to Los Angeles) surround money and the impact it has. The new album contains a couple of reimagined songs from the debut that are given more life and fuller sound (“Party Animal” and “$1,000,000 Dollar Girl”). While the lyrics are delivered with a punchy punk edge, it balances well with the overall new-wave lean of the music.
