Products Band, formed in 2017 in Minneapolis, MN, consists of Jo, Alex, Konner, and Jack. Their sound is not quite something you can pin down, but at the same time, you can hear the influences of all four members of the band meeting in the middle to create the musical product(s band). On their new single, “It’s Not True, It Works,” you’re given blasts of math rock, 90s alternative, art pop, and no wave/new wave. Energetic shifts and textures keep you engaged throughout the seven-minute runtime, with the two-minute outro maintaining the song’s momentum to the end. The stream-of-consciousness lyrics help in creating a singular atmosphere for the song, with appropriately spaced toggling of emotional shouting and drawn-out articulation. As you listen to the track, the personalities of all the band members shine through, resulting in a song that feels fresh and intriguing while also carrying hints of familiarity.
