Zoh Amba, a New York-based baritone saxophonist, has a new single that brings a welcome change of pace in a world filled with so much anxiety. The free-form, almost jazz-like song titled “Fruit Gathering” sounds like a walk on a quiet day when you want to get away from the stress of the daily grind. It asks you to ponder your feelings and check in with yourself.
Amba plays the saxophone with so much emotion behind it, you can’t help but get engrossed in the beautiful playing. The piano is so delicate and whimsical that its presence reminds you of the profound and uplifting nature of Zoh Amba’s song writing. If I had one request, it would be that I wish the song were longer. But maybe that misses the point – the song’s brevity and fleeting nature serve as a reminder to appreciate life’s small pleasures. The moments that make us stop and remember that a small moment can have an impacting, lasting impression.
“Fruit Gathering” is released ahead of Zoh Amba’s upcoming album, Sun, out June 27th via Smalltown Supersound. Pre-order available here.
