Show Review: NOBRO (Kilby Court, 6/5/2025)

Sometimes, when I see rock bands perform live, I get the sense that they’re taking it so seriously that they forget most of us go out to a show because we want to have fun. There’s a desire to experience something different from what a band provides in their recorded music, and seeing a band genuinely happy to play their songs in front of an audience. NOBRO from Montreal hits all those notes in their live show. Their infectious energy grabs you the second they hit the stage. Last week, NOBRO played at Kilby Court in Salt Lake City and did not disappoint.

Lead singer Kathryn McCaughney has the stage presence and charisma to make you enjoy the band, whether it’s your first time listening to NOBRO or you’re a superfan. The rest of the band; Karolane Carbonneau on guitar, Tara Cohen on keys and percussion, and Andy Silver on drums; are just as energetic and thrilled to be on stage. Their fast-paced, no-frills, take-no-BS brand of punk rock thrives in a live setting, and their catchy, earworm hooks stay with you long after the show is over. Going to a NOBRO show is a must if you love high-energy rock music, and we’ll be there every time they play in my city.
