Chicago-based This House is Creaking is the collaborative project of Micah Miller and Ehmed Nauman, a duo whose sound is rooted in both nostalgia and innovation. Miller and Nauman draw inspiration from ’90s alt-rock, Midwest emo, and digital “PC” music, weaving these varied influences into a distinct sound of their own. Nauman has played guitar with Godly the Ruler, Delaney Bailey, and Elliott M.A.G.S. Last year, the band released their self-titled debut album, introducing listeners to their unique sound. Since then, they’ve continued to evolve, with a few singles dropping this year – one of them released today, “Whisper,” a compelling addition to their growing discography.
“Whisper” presents a blend of pop-forward melodies with alt-leaning structures, enveloped in a texturized blanket of noisy production. The resulting soundscape feels both comforting in its familiarity yet exciting in its unpredictability. “Whisper” asks a question of existence with a dose of paranoia, but THiC expertly package this heavy message in a pop song with a bouncy baseline and laid-back vocal delivery.
