New York natives Moving Mountains are back with a single track release “Ghosts” from an upcoming album that will be out by the end of this month. Well-known for their emo and post-rock elements within their past three studio albums, the last being released in 2013 was their self titled album, and I really thought that was to be their huge launch and take off at the time. Tours took place and a couple of years later in 2015 they worked on a split album with New Jersey’s Prawn, rising us back on our toes but then beyond that the band slowly fell silent, quietly fading into the background but never quite being forgotten. Pruning Of The Lower Limbs will be the first LP Moving Mountains has recorded in over 10 years as a band.
“Ghosts” is a very commanding track for the album as a whole, as it was one of the first written, chosen to be the premier track of the album and, alas, chosen to be the very first released after all these years for an overly-awaited and exhilarated fan base. The intention behind the track was the impression and mindfulness of “presence.”
As we spring forward to present-day in continuing the bands journey, to not overcompensate or find ourselves fixating on the time spent off in between, but rather place the focus on picking up where they last left off, the beauty of knowing that there’s still plenty of depth and space in the very present moment to reach for. Just the opening essence of the song, an auspicious piano prelude, embodies the song with prolific integration. It reminds me a lot of one of my past favorites by them, “Eastern Leaves,” off their self-titled album they released before their long hiatus.
“Ghosts” is released ahead of Moving Mountains’ upcoming album, Pruning Of The Lower Limbs, out June 27th via Wax Bodega. Pre-order available here.
