Tiberius – “Moab”

Tiberius self-coins their sound as “farm emo,” blending emotional alternative with the teetering textures of pedal steel and banjo. On their forthcoming record, a journey through love, loss, and limerence; front person Brendan Wright leans into conversational lyrics, meandering through an emotional and cathartic journey. Their new single “Moab,” is about hope and the beauty found in resilience.

Opening with the stark confession “I give up,” the track immediately takes listeners into a moment of vulnerability. From there, Tiberius sketch a portrait of someone who finds inspiration in the smallest acts of perseverance – crying over the beauty of spider webs and the determination it takes to build and rebuild them. The image becomes a metaphor or something delicate yet enduring, easily destroyed yet continuously rebuilt. Musically, the track builds to a cathartic swelling point, while flipping the opening lines “I give up” with the chorus “don’t they know to not give up,” transforming defeat into a kind of awe for those who keep going.

“Moab” is an invitation to marvel at human fragility and embrace perseverance, wrapping its emotions in plainspoken storytelling with a sweet instrumentation backdrop. Tiberius delivers a song that serves as an ode to fragility, persistence, and the beauty of rebuilding, no matter how many times we’ve fallen apart.

“’Moab’ was a song I wrote about trying to let go. At the time I was defining myself by expectations of a strained relationship. I was feeling pretty insane – like the kind of insane you feel back in 8th grade where you come home crying all of the time because you have absolutely no sense of self. Writing ‘Moab’ offered catharsis. Looking back, I feel a lot of embarrassment around those feelings, – but it was how I felt at the time and that was the place I was in. I wish I had acted differently, and I strive to now.”
