Show Review: Flamingosis (The State Room, 2/7/2026)

Flamingosis brought a surge of grooviness and warmth to Salt Lake City when they performed at The State Room earlier this month as part of the 10-year anniversary tour for Bright Moments. I’ll admit, I was a little unsure what to expect because The State Room typically leans toward country, folk, and Americana acts, and Flamingosis is none of those things, Adam Velasquez, the Jersey-based producer behind the name, has spent the past decade releasing a vibrant mix of old-school soul, funk, hip-hop, and sample-driven grooves – the kind of music that fits just as easily at a poolside as it does while getting ready for a night out.

Any concerns I had were evaporated the moment he hit play. The room instantly lit up with positive energy and transformed into a tropical dance party in the middle of winter. People were dancing, clapping, and feeding off the same enthusiasm he poured into every sample, every transition, and every off-the-cuff comment made on the mic. With only a minimal setup on stage, he commanded the entire night as a one-man show, guiding the crowd through a journey of lo-fi hip-hop beats, tropical house vibes, and futuristic pop-soul montages. By the end go the night, every single person in the packed room was fully entranced by the energy and atmosphere Flamingosis created.
