mypilotis (pronounced my-pea-loh-tea) is the Texas-based solo indie-rock project of multi-instrumentalist Chesca Umeno. Their new single, “fence sitter,” dives into the paralysis of indecision and the feeling of being chronically stuck “on the fence.”
Shimmering organ bells lay down an irresistibly danceable foundation for Umeno’s commanding vocals, which remain the song’s driving force. The lyrics unfold as a cascade of questions – anxious and over-examined, but ultimately, human. These mirror the inner monologue of someone who can’t stop second-guessing themselves. Lines like, “Why the heck am I so confused?” and “Should I stay or should I just go?” capture that restless uncertainty with a sustained self-awareness.
