Nara’s Room – “Tucson”

Nara’s Room is a Brooklyn-based experimental shoegaze project led by Nara Avakian, and joined by Ethan Nash on bass and Brendan Jones on drums. Their latest single, “Tucson,” is a romance-tinged song about family estrangement and the bittersweet nostalgia that comes with age and change. The track moves slowly and dreamily, wrapping itself in a hazy atmosphere inspired by Y2K pop production. Through the swirling noise, Nara’s Room maintains a weight beneath the surface that gives “Tucson” plenty of depth and emotion.

The song “Tucson” was partially inspired by the final scene of a biographical documentary about Linda Ronstadt, in which she is singing with her family in her living room. Paralleling with their own struggles, Avakian reconciles this with memories of their Armenian heritage and intergenerational trauma.

“This song was partly inspired by the final scene in the Linda Ronstadt documentary, where she is singing with her family in her Tucson living room. It’s about intergenerational trauma and the Genocide of the Armenian people, and my attempts to reconcile the past, present, and future marked by my family’s loss of their home and their identity.”
