Anybody nostalgic for a time when radio ruled in the 90s, when MTV’s 120 minutes was what you watched to find cool alternative rock bands; Crushed is the band for you. Their mix of trip-hop, electronica, shoegaze, dream pop, will feel like going back to the room you had when you were in grade school listening to music on your walkman. And for those who didn’t grow up knowing that feeling, Crushed will get you as close to a sense of what that was like. Bre Morell’s (of Temple of Angels) ethereal and warm vocals mixed in with Shaun Durkan’s (of Weekend) guitar playing produce an intoxicating combination of dream pop and shoegaze on their debut EP, extra life, which came out last year on ng+.
Almost exactly a year from their album debut, Crushed took the stage at San Diego’s Soda Bar alongside local bands Kan-Kan (slacker rock) and Memory Leak (shoegaze). Their set consisted of the entirety of the extra life EP, in addition to a few unreleased songs. In-between song transitions were sample-filled and provided for an unbroken musical experience.
