Swedish dream-pop outfit The Mary Onettes recently returned from hiatus, releasing several singles over the past year. Two new singles, “Hurricane Heart” and “Eyes Open” set the stage for a new album due later this year. “Eyes Open” also features vocals from Maja Milner of Swedish post-punk band Makthaverskan.
These latest tracks stay true to The Mary Onettes’ signature sound – rich in texture, with lush guitars weaving through a dreamy landscape. “Hurricane Heart” explores romantic uncertainty, misplaced feelings, and detachment. Philip Ekström’s vocals on the track embody an emotional push-and-pull. His introspective delivery lingers in the echoes of love and loss, creating a hauntingly beautiful tension throughout the song.
“Eyes Open” builds upon the aftermath of themes, unraveling the emotional conflict between letting go and holding on. Maja Milner’s ethereal vocals add another layer, immersing the listener in a shimmering haze of nostalgia and longing. Soaring synths and melancholic melodies amplify the song’s emotional depth, crystallizing the internal struggle that inspired it.
With an atmospheric presence that feels both vast and intimate, The Mary Onettes craft an immersive sonic journey – one that invites reflection on the bittersweet tension between memory and desire.
“Hurricane Heart” and “Eyes Open” are released ahead of The Mary Onettes’ upcoming album, SWORN, out November 14th via Welfare Sounds.
