Sunglasz Vendor are an emo-alternative three-piece from Bristol, and “I’ll Do To You Yourself” marks their first single since the release of their debut album earlier this year, Unwinding. The chorus bursts with a striking guitar riff and screeching vocals that sharply contrast the verses, where calmer sonic tides wash over. The vocals cut through a dizzying math-rock groove, propelling the song into exhilarating freefall. Although the track has a short two-minute runtime, Sunglasz Vendor manage to pack in a full load of emotion and catharsis in one fell swoop.
Singer/guitarist Rafi Cohen explains, “This song is about cycles of hatred. There’s not much poignancy to it to be honest. Someone hates you, so you hate them; it’s stupid, immature and very satisfying.” Lyrically, the track pulses with defiance and introspection, both detached and obsessive, suspended between resentment and resolve. To celebrate the single’s release, the band will join Glasshouse Red Spider Mite for a seven-date UK tour this November.
