Irish indie alternative-emo band Hurling’s second single to date, “I Could Never Make A Glasshouse My Home,” is tender in its sound yet heavy in emotional content. Layers of fragile, traversing melodies, coupled with raw lyrics about emotional suffocation, bring home this sense of estrangement from both a lover and oneself. This feeling of stasis and unraveling intimacy is captured not only in the music but also in the vocals, which embody this subtle plea for release.
The lineup of Hurling consists of Ciara O’Brien on bass and vocals, Eddie McCormack on guitar and vocals, and Kevin Callanan on drums. The trio got together in 2024 and have been working primarily out of Eddie’s home studio, where he also handles production for the band. He explains, “After spending time writing and recording music in other bands we came together with the aim of writing songs that were much more personal thematically, this coincided with all of us just buying a lot of outboard gear which then led to us taking a more DIY approach to the recording of our music.”
With “I Could Never Make A Glasshouse My Home,” Hurling solidify their identity as a band unafraid to meld vulnerability with intensity.
