“Triumph” is the first single from deathcrash in over two years, arriving ahead of their third album, which will likely be released sometime next year. Although they come from the South London scene, deathcrash have always stood apart from the typical regional sound. What you can expect from a deathcrash song is something mysterious and methodical, emotional and pensive. There’s a true “weirdo” energy to the music that they put out. “Triumph” feels like a distant but familiar melody, retold so many times that it becomes unfamiliar.
“Triumph” is about “fighting the urge to drive into oncoming traffic,” a blunt depiction of intrusive thoughts. deathcrash channel this psychological struggle into the song’s balance between heaviness and restraint. The track opens with a powerful, melodic introduction that feeds into the band’s signature slowcore sound. The crashes throughout the song remain true to what the band are about, while also signaling the addition of more noise and less spaciousness in their upcoming music. Bassist Patrick Fitzgerald wrote the new song and co-directed the accompanying music video with St.Teilo.
