Towards the end of their full U.S. tour supporting the release of their recent album ALL MONSTERS, MX LONELY stopped by The DLC in Salt Lake City to play their latest songs and drown the room with their moody, noisy sound. ALL MONSTERS explores “the idea of a collective ownership of all the monsters inside of us,” treating those monsters as symbols of shared human experiences – whether trauma, addiction, neurodivergence, or self-doubt. These themes come through in music full of catharsis and unearthing suppressed, self-harming behaviors. The album was self-recorded, offering a direct glimpse into what an MX LONELY live show feels like.
From the first notes of “Kill The Candle,” front person Rae Haas commanded the room along with their backing band who flooded the space with noise and attitude. Haas didn’t shy away from stepping into the crowd or utilizing every space of the stage as part of their performance. As the set progressed, the band leaned harder into the rawness that defines ALL MONSTERS. Tracks like “Big Hips” and “Return to Sender” built on layers of sound, feeling like waves of emotion. Haas’ vocals cut through the chaos with a mix of vulnerability and defiance, pulling everyone into their release. If ALL MONSTERS is an invitation to confront the things we bury, then MX LONELY’s live show provides the release for those inner dark shadows.
