Nihilistic Easyrider – “Getaway Plan”

The new single “Getaway Plan” from Houston-based Nihilistic Easyrider is a first taste at what Narrow Head’s Jacob Duarte has been cooking on the side. While Duarte wouldn’t necessarily consider Nihilistic Easyrider a “solo project” per se, the moniker functions as sort of a runoff for ideas that don’t quite fit with Narrow Head’s sound. “I always know if a riff is going to become a Narrow Head song or a Nihilistic Easyrider song the moment I first write it,” Duarte shares.

In “Getaway Plan” we are introduced to Nihilistic Easyrider as a project with an overall fun spirit. It’s definitely inspired by 90s and 00s alternative, but there’s a prevailing element of pop punk that supersedes this classification. The song is catchy, energetic, and with a brief 2:38 runtime, it cuts to the chase and has an air of feel-good simplicity. Duarte describes the sound as more in the realm of music he wanted to create early on, “…these Nihilistic Easyrider songs are closer to the music I always wanted to make growing up – they’ve got that real ’90s and 2000’s emo feel that I grew up loving and wanting to channel. When I write for Narrow Head I’m writing for what the band needs, whereas these songs are more like, a personal diary of growing up through music.”

The upcoming mixtape DELUXE EDITION will also feature unreleased songs Jacob Duarte has worked on from the last decade or so. The twelve tracks came together with the collaboration of Narrow Head drummer Carson Wilcox, producer (and former tour-mate) Graham Hunt, and features from Momma’s Allegra Weingarten and Ella Friedman.

“Getaway Plan” is released ahead of Nihilistic Easyrider’s debut album, DELUXE EDITION, out July 25th via Run For Cover. Pre-order available here.
