On the second day of SXSW, Typical Girls kicked off day one of Glaze‘s two-day showcase at Cheer Up Charlies in downtown Austin. Their dream-pop and synth-driven music is perfectly complimented by Michael’s edgy, post-punk-leaning vocals. Their 40-minute set sounded like familiar, straightforward indie-rock with a fresh revamp, not dissimilar to the neon lights adorning the outdoor stage at the venue. The band only have a few EPs and singles out right now, but we were able to hear a couple of new songs being workshopped. The collection of new, unfinished songs and older songs from the EPs made for a fun and satisfying start to the night.
