La Sécurité from Montreal were the “secret guest” at the Sahara Lounge’s second annual Desert Oasis Showcase. The band’s signature sexy, post-punk sound translated well to their in-person performance, as their frontperson Éliane strutted around the stage in between synth parts. By the time she let her hair down halfway through the set, La Sécurité had already set the groove for the dance floor at the Sahara Lounge.
Punchy, driving baselines and phrenetic drumming got the crowd moving for the duration of the show, while the two guitarists on either side of the stage added their own flavor of dark post-punk angular sounds. This musical backdrop supported Éliane’s sultry dancing and vocals, which were at times nonchalant to fit with the French theme, and at other times demanding for the more punk-inspired songs.
La Sécurité is what happens when you combine late 70s new wave CBGB’s scene with the 2000s indie dance-punk scene. They left an impression on us and those in the room that night and propelled the night forward for the remaining bands.
