The quirky name of Melbourne-based band The Belair Lip Bombs was inspired by a model of vintage skateboard wheel from the 80s. While the vocals from frontwoman Maisie Everett have a distinct shyness to them, the complementary jangliness of the guitar and drums drive the sound forward to create a sound that perfectly meshes jangly dream pop with rock and a bit of punk. Their live performance is loose and fun, and there is just an honest energy where you don’t feel it’s a band projecting an image. A lot of bands try to work an angle, but The Belair Lip Bombs are just a rock band through and through, and they are not apologetic about it. They are just going to plug in and play. They write good songs with relatable lyrics and they are delivered with emotion. They are a band to get on your radar now, be sure to listen to their debut album “Lush Life” which came out last year on C.W. Records.
Check out some South By footage below; a few songs from the end of their set at Hotel Vegas and a full set from Empire Garage the next day.
