Ada Lea’s new track “something in the wind” creates an uplifting atmosphere that pulls you into the depths of emotional vulnerability. In the song, Ada Lea describes the inevitability of love, suggesting that avoiding it only deepens inner conflict. The music carries a sense of acceptance, while the lyrics hint that love, though essential, can also leave its marks. “something in the wind” was born out of a forgotten dream, which Ada Lea explains is the one constant in everyone’s life. No matter what the dream is, we all have one and must learn to co-exist with it; “I had a dream about this song and remember nothing. There is a constant in everyone’s life, which is the dream.” For Ada Lea, this dream is love, something she sees as being essential to life.
Inspired by the season 2 finale of Nathan Fielder’s The Rehearsal, Ada Lea decided to perform her own “miracle over the mojave” and learn to figure skate in just six months. This achievement is showcased in the music video for the single with the help of choreographer Brittney Canda. Ada Lea views figure skating as a fitting metaphor for her return to the joys of music and for surviving the music industry, where it’s cold and your falls are on full display. From the icy floor, the only way to go is up.
“something in the wind” is released ahead of Ada Lea’s upcoming album, when i paint my masterpiece, out August 8, 2025 on Saddle Creek. Preorder available here.
